Pros & Cons of Bareback Sex.

 

If you are considering having bareback sex for the first time, it is important to know about the testing process and what you might want to get tested for, before and after your first bareback sexual encounter.

Most sexual health clinics or doctors will administer a STI/STD test that will check for the following:

Chlamydia.
Gonorrhea.
Hepatitis.
Herpes.
HIV.
Human papillomavirus (HPV).
Syphilis.

Even if you or your partner have already been tested, all STI's and STD's have an incubation period so, even if someone has a recent negative test result, if they (or you) have been engaging in bareback sex, getting two negative test results might be something to consider prior to engaging in unprotected sex.

Taking these tests together might be a way that you can both show a commitment to each other’s safety.

Positive STD / STI Test Results.

Just because a positive test result may have come back, this does not mean that you need to avoid bareback sex with that person. In fact, most STI's can be taken care of quite simply by having a couple of injections or a few pills. All you need to do is postpone having bareback sex until the treatment has been completed and a negative test result has been returned.

If you (or your partner) test positive for HIV, that also does not mean that bareback sex needs to be avoided.

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) can help to control the HIV and eventually get the viral load down to undetectable levels, which is when a person who is HIV-U can’t transmit the HIV virus to other people, even when having bareback sex.

Bareback Sex Tips.

Prepare for Bareback Sex Correctly.

This means knowing how to correctly douche, using an enema, brushing your teeth and ensuring that you are free from any cuts or nicks prior to engaging in bareback sex to minimize the risk of STI transmission. When douching, it is best to prepare for anal sex several hours prior to having bareback sex and not to douche immediately following bareback sex.
